Jessica and Jim Bonilla live off-grid in the desert, relying on rainwater to sustain themselves. They moved to the desert over three years ago, with limited building experience, to build their own house and live a sustainable lifestyle. They have used recycled, reclaimed materials in their builds and use permaculture principles to design a sustainable system that is self-sufficient and minimises waste. They have a 5kW solar system, consisting of Tesla batteries and inverters, to power their home and RV. They also have a humanure composting system and a rainwater catchment system, which is their main source of water. The Bonillas aim to live sustainably and be as self-sufficient as possible. They have learned to be patient and accept that their big dreams take time to materialise. They believe that living off-grid gives them the freedom to live life on their own terms and to have a positive impact on the environment.
