Angela from Growing in the Garden gives a garden tour of her summer garden in Mesa, Arizona. Despite the hot temperatures, she has several champions in her garden that have thrived. Her loofah plant has overtaken a trellis and she hand-pollinates the first female blossom to ensure pollination. Her basil plants have continued to grow despite the heat, and she has several different varieties in her garden, including genovese, cinnamon, and lemon basil. Angela also plants cover crops in the empty spaces left by dead plants, including black-eyed peas that will be cut back before flowering and used as living mulch. She also grows sesame, which thrives in the heat and attracts bees and pollinators. Finally, her okra plants have done well in the hot summer weather!
